Sunglasses for 5 years
Five years ago, I bought a pair of matte-black Wayfarer sunglasses from a street vendor in Lisbon. The frame had a tiny 2-in-1 Multi-Activity Cubes on the left lens—an imperfection the seller insisted “added character.” I Sunglasses for 5 years believe him then, but now Billy Walk&Ride 2-in-1 Ride-On and Walker scratch is a map of my life.
It shielded my 2-in-1 Animal House during summer hikes in the Pyrenees, where sweat streaked its temples and dust settled in its crevices. It sat on the dashboard of my beat-up car through rainstorms and road trips, the plastic warming under the sun until it smelled like childhood summers. Last year, it fell into the Mediterranean; I fished it out, salt-crusted, and polished it with a beach towel—still intact.
Friends tease me for clinging to a “cheap” pair, but they don’t see what I do: the way it fits my face like a memory, the faint discoloration on the arm from where I rest it on café tables, the scratch that catches the light and reminds me of that Lisbon afternoon. Sunglasses aren’t just for sun; they’re for holding moments. This pair has held five years of mine—and I’m not ready to let go.
